Q: Can I join the program if I am turning 18 soon?
A: As long as you are at least 18 years old on the first day of the program, and you are attending a post-secondary institution outside Canada, you are eligible to join VSP. Some course packages have a 19+ requirement, so please review the course package details carefully.
Q: Is there an application fee?
A: Yes, there is an $85 CAD non-refundable application fee applied to the program fee. While the total program fee is $5,625 CAD, VSP deducts the application fee from this, so the total program payment you will make will be $5,540. You will receive an email regarding the application fee after you submit your application.
Q: Can you explain more what the “all-encompassing program fee” means?
A: This fee includes the application fee, your course package tuition, on-campus housing during the program, course materials, medical insurance, VSP-arranged transport to and from the airport, a Vancouver city tour, a Welcome Event and a farewell lunch. Depending on your course package, other activities might be included or subsidized, or come at an additional cost.
Q: What other costs are not covered?
A: Unless noted otherwise, the program fee does not cover airfare, meals, personal trips and personal expenses.
Q: What can I expect after paying the application fee?
A: To verify your information, we will contact the administrator you listed in your application. We must hear back from that person in order to complete your application.
Q: How do I establish my English language requirement to join VSP?
A: VSP has no official language requirement. Students must be fully proficient in English and have the ability to participate in the class setting in English.
Q: Is there only one application deadline for both sessions?
A: No. The June session deadline is Feb. 18, 2023, and for July, April 1, 2023.
Q: Are there any other deadlines?
A: The program payment deadline for the June session is Feb. 25, 2023, and for the July session, April 8, 2023. You must also have received your letter of acceptance by these dates in order to fully qualify for VSP 2023.
Q: Can I apply for any scholarships for the program?
A: Check with your home university about any funding opportunities. UBC does not offer scholarships or bursaries for VSP.
